Book Review: Storm by: Amanda Sun

I don't post my YA reviews on my blog because they get posted up on my best friend's blog (a button to them is up on my blog), but a good friend of mine wanted me to post my review for this book and I said I would. At the end, if you are interested, I will have links to my reviews to the other books in the trilogy, which includes the novellas.

Synopsis: Goodreads

After almost a year in Japan, Katie Greene has finally unearthed the terrible secret behind her boyfriend Tomohiro's deadly ability to bring drawings to life—not only is he descended from Kami, the ancient Japanese gods, but he is the heir to a tragedy that occurred long ago, a tragedy that is about to repeat.

Even as the blood of a vengeful god rages inside Tomo, Katie is determined to put his dark powers to sleep. In order to do so, she and Tomo must journey to find the three Imperial Treasures of Japan. Gifts from the goddess Amaterasu herself, these treasures could unlock all of the secrets about Tomo's volatile ancestry and quell the ink's lust for destruction. But in order to complete their quest, Tomo and Katie must confront out-of-control Kami and former friend Jun, who has begun his own quest of revenge against those he believes have wronged him. To save the world, and themselves, Katie and Tomo will be up against one of the darkest Kami creations they've ever encountered—and they may not make it out alive.

Review: (4.5 stars)

“Ink” became one of my favorite trilogies right away. I loved the setting, story and characters. But now the trilogy is over. I’m sad that it is over, but happy because of how great of a ride these books take you on.

I have been anticipating “Storm” since I read “Rain”. The way things ended, left me wanting more.  But I had to wait. The time finally came that I could read how everything will turn out for the characters.

The ink has been affecting Katie more than it ever did. She starts to have nightmares that the Kami have. The closer the time comes for the showdown between Tomo and Jun gets the more everyone is affected by it. Tomo loses control more and more.

While Katie is trying to come up of ways to solve their problem, her dad decides to make an appearance into her life after seventeen years. He heard about what happened to her mom and wants to say how sorry he is for what he did. Her dad only made a small appearance. I would have liked him to have had a bigger role.

Overall, it was a bittersweet ending. I felt that the pace was a little slow, but a lot of things were happening. I’m not completely satisfied with how everything ended because I want more to the story, but things were wrapped up nicely. A nice way to end a fantastic story.
