Book Review: Of Monsters and Madness by: Jessica Verday

I know I have already made a post today, but I have been meaning to write this review and get it up, but life has been getting in the way. Without anymore waiting, here is my review.

Synopsis: Goodreads

A romantic, historical retelling of classic Gothic horror featuring Edgar Allan Poe and his character Annabel Lee, from a New York Times best-selling author.

Summoned to her father's home in 1820's Philadelphia, a girl finds herself in the midst of a rash of gruesome murders in which he might be implicated. She is torn romantically between her father's assistants-one kind and proper, one mysterious and brooding-who share a dark secret and may have more to do with the violent events than they're letting on.

Review: (4.5 stars)

I love Jessica Verday, so I was excited hearing about Of Monsters and Madness. Couldn’t wait to dive in and experience a new world from her.

A friend told me that Jessica Verday will be adding new things to the story and republishing it before publishing the sequel, but I wanted to read it as it is now before the new version comes out.

By the cover I got a sense that the story was going to be creepier than it actually was. I was a little disappointed. It was more of a drama/mystery to me. Maybe because not much is creepy to me for my love of horror movies. I don’t know. With having said that, I still really enjoyed the story. It was still captivating.

I’m a fan of Edgar Allan Poe, which made me that more excited. The way Jessica Verday included his story into her own was perfect. The twist of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde added to the suspense. I love how it all came together. It didn’t ruin the story, but added to it.

One thing that I love about Jessica’s writing is how fast paced her books are. It makes the story go by fast, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Overall, I can’t wait for the next book. Whenever it may come out. I am left with so many questions that I really want answered. You go through so many emotions and I want to see where they will lead you. The next book needs to come out soon. That way I can continue to ride this crazy story.

Season 7.

I'm going to make a general post about this season so far. Not a particular episode like I usually do.

This season  doesn't have Elena as part of the story. Characters talk about her every now and then, but the character isn't physically in the show. I miss Elena being part of the crew, but I still think that the show is great without her. It now focuses on the other characters pasts and stories.

Some episodes flash three years into the future to show us what is happening to the characters. Where they end up. I like this, but it also annoys me at the same time. They only give little bits and pieces, so I'm left with many questions about what happened to get them to the point that they are in.

Damon and Stefan are facing a lot due to their mother. She is causing them problems that are unneeded. Instead of standing with her sons, she is fighting against them.

I don't want to go into too much detail on what has been happening this season because I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen anything yet.

For those who have seen this season so far, how are you liking it? Are you enjoying it as much as I am? If not, why?
