This season doesn't have Elena as part of the story. Characters talk about her every now and then, but the character isn't physically in the show. I miss Elena being part of the crew, but I still think that the show is great without her. It now focuses on the other characters pasts and stories.
Some episodes flash three years into the future to show us what is happening to the characters. Where they end up. I like this, but it also annoys me at the same time. They only give little bits and pieces, so I'm left with many questions about what happened to get them to the point that they are in.
Damon and Stefan are facing a lot due to their mother. She is causing them problems that are unneeded. Instead of standing with her sons, she is fighting against them.
I don't want to go into too much detail on what has been happening this season because I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen anything yet.
